Los Angeles Fires Disaster Relief – January 2025
The wildfires in the Los Angeles area have burned over 40,000 acres and forced some 150,000 people to evacuate. At least 24 people are dead and more than 12,000 structures destroyed, many of them homes, as well as Corpus Christi Catholic Church and a school in Pacific Palisades. The Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center in Sierra Madre also suffered significant damage.
We join our prayers with those of people all around the country for all who have been affected. Putting our trust in the Lord, we ask for His gifts of strength and perseverance upon all who are engaged in the massive work of relief and recovery. The faithful of this local Church have always responded with great generosity when natural disasters strike anywhere in the world. Cardinal Gregory has already sent financial support to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to assist in the recovery efforts in their affected communities.
Catholic Charities USA is accepting donations now for Los Angeles Wildfire Relief, pledging to apply the funds where they are needed most. Other organizations recognized by FEMA are also accepting donations and state and nonprofit partners like the American Red Cross and others are providing shelter, meals, emotional comfort, and assistance locating a missing loved one because of the fires.
